Vidar Helgesen, the Norwegian Minister of Climate and Environment, dropped by the GRID-Arendal office today to meet with Managing Director Peter Harris.
Helgesen had just spoken at an Arendalsuka event called Den globale kampen mot marin forsøpling (The global fight against marine litter) sponsored by GRID-Arendal, Hold Norge Rent and Miljødirektoratet (The Norwegian Environment Agency).
In his speech, Helgesen outlined the efforts Norway is making – nationally and globally – to reduce the scourge of marine litter.
And he paid tribute to GRID-Arendal’s support: “The professional information work that GRID-Arendal does internationally is an extremely important part of our work with and against marine litter,” Helgesen said during his presentation at the event. “When UNEA-2 convened in Nairobi in May, it was GRID-Arendal that hosted the assembly’s most successful side-event. International policy-makers were standing in a queue in the hallway, in the heat, to join Norway´s seminar on action against marine debris.”
